Salmon Fishing Opportunities Expand
With July 1st, we have a number of salmon fishing opportunities opening up to angles here in Puget Sound, Hood Canal an the Straits. Here's a little run down on what has opened up.
Marine Area 5 - Sekiu and Pillar Point
July 1 - August 15 - Chinook - min size 22". Other salmon - no minimum size. Daily limit 2. Release Chum, wild coho and wild Chinook. Season may close earlier if Chinook guidline is attained.
Marine Are 6 - East Juan de Fuca Strait
July 1 - August 15 - Chinook - min size 22". Other salmon - no minimum size. Daily limit 2, Release Chum, wild coho and wild Chinook.
Marine Area 7 - San Juan Islands
July 1 - July 31 - Chinook - min siaze 22". Other salmon - no minimum size. Daily limit 2. Release Chum and wild Chinook.
Marine Area 11 Tacoma - Vashon Island
July 1 - Sept 30 - When fishing from a vessel, open Saturdays - Wednesdays. Closed Thursdays and Fridays. When fishing from shore open 7 days per week. Chinook - min size 22". Other salmon species - no min size. Dalily limit 2. Only 1 hatchery Chinook may be retained. Release wild Chinook. Season may close earlier if Chinook quota is attained.
Marine Area 12 - Hood Canal (South of Ayock Point) July 1 - Sept. 30 - Chinook - min Size 20". Other salmon species - no min. size. Daily limit 4. Release Chum and wild Chinook. Anglers may fish with two rods with tow pole endorsement.
This is a quick run down on the regulations. Please make sure to read the WDFW phamplet for additional regulations for the area in which you fish. There are many area closures within the primary area.
